“Can you be a Christian and gay? Often times these two traits can seem at odds depending on the church or crowd you’re apart of. An issue faced by many Christians who are also gay, Terrace Ewing-Hill had to deal with this seemingly contradictory set of traits. Growing up in the conservative town of Lubbock, Texas in a loving, Christian family – Terrace had to struggle with people in her Church and family not accepting her androgynous tendencies and homosexuality. With her youth group critiquing her walk and her parents putting her in Christian conversion therapy, Terrace had to wrestle with her own identity of loving God and loving women. Terrace speaks so beautifully about her process during these times, the evolution of herself and her family, and gives some really terrific advice regarding any family member who does not accept you for who you are (whether it has to do with sexuality or not). An eloquent and insightful interview about how to rise above pressures from outside and look within to find what is true for you. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Q Christian Fellowship Teach for America Peace Corps +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- YOU ARE COURAGEOUS! +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/youarecoura… Your Host: Skye Lucking source http://skyelucking.com/can-you-be-christian-and-gay-devout-gay-christian-and-newlywed-terrace-ewing-hill/ Via https://skyeluckingcom.tumblr.com/post/183751134502

You came for the beverage, but may linger for the art. Local coffee shops that offer its regular customers a rotating art collection always impress me. It takes time to reach out to local artists, curate those that respond, and install and de-install on a regular basis. So, mixing it up for those regulars that come week after week with a new collection of art is extra-special. Double-plus that if the artwork happens to be mine for a few of those rotations! This is the second time I’ve shown work at my local coffee shop Hava Java. I actually did a feature of the curator who I worked with at that time, Melisa Elias, an artist in her own right. You can see that here. My first installation was all about BIG pieces, but I wanted to mix the current installation up with a few of my old favorite pieces – a few of which were painted during my time in Buenos Aires – a little while ago now. Each piece hanging at Hava Java now has a special place in my heart. As with all artwork, each has its own origin story – which is also is in part a story of me and a place and time in my life. Please see the images below! source http://skyelucking.com/artwork-installed-in-my-local-phoenix-coffee-shop-hava-java/ Via https://skyeluckingcom.tumblr.com/post/182345636647 I was listening to a “This American Life” episode titled “The Living Room” while creating this modern geometric art piece in a pink frame. I have some lovely framed originals that would make great holiday gifts for a forever home! This framed original is titled “The Living Room” – 9.25 x 11.25 inches in a painted pink frame. On the inside of the glass, I’ve added ink to give the image a 3rd dimension. I’ve been playing with adding dimension in my works and this was one of the first experiments! Chinoiserie is the European interpretation and imitation of Chinese and East Asian artistic traditions, especially in the decorative arts, garden design, architecture, literature, theatre, and music. At first, the client wanted the stencils in white. However, after the initial painting, she decided she wanted them in the colors of her interior design motif of turquoise, blue, green, lavender, and purple. I’m so glad she went that direction! It turned out beautifully. This project was so important to me as an artist. See why below! I was overjoyed to install this 3-panel “mural” project last week. The first inquiry about it came to me a week after being laid-off from my corporate job last year when I was in a whirlwind of “what next?” and considering both a full-time job as an artist or another corporate job or the like. Aside from the encouragement from my amazing hubs, this out-of-the-blue project request was one of the things that gave me the courage to start the most creative, fulfilling, curious, exhausting, and fun years of my life. It was the proverbial “sign from the universe”! This client was a dream client – with a beautiful style, funny sense of humor, and adorable pup. She said she was fine with me doing other projects if I needed to while working in her’s which gave me the opportunity to do the Phoenix Mural Project. Now, this project is done- she’s delighted and I have bittersweet feelings about not having those birds hanging around my house. I am so glad I made the choice I did, scary as it was, to devote my life to my own creative process plus spotlighting the creative geniuses all around with @youarecourageous. These silvery panels were at the start of it all! If you’d like to work with me on a mural or wall decor project of your own – check out my Murals page for more information! This geometric fine art piece is titled “Tick Tock” and has traveled from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Burning Man, to a fashion incubator in the heart of Tempe, Arizona. The work is 5ft by 7ft and was completed within a week before the solo exhibition in the Palermo district of Buenos, Aires, Argentina. It was the last painting I’d created before we were to move back to the US and start our lives as Arizonans. The title “Tock Tick” was to reference time. In this piece, you’ll see several references to how time is perceived. The Colors of each season are represented in sections of each piece including the trees in a circle at the bottom. Also, colors of money, from coins to cash, a reference to the phrase “Time is Money”. Also, there are several objects in the piece that are representational of the female body, fertility, and growth – all wrapped up in the passage of time. Another aspect of this work is its transformation when it visited the Burning Man Festival in 2012. We strapped the painting to our R.V. as to add to the feast of art that is Burning Man. The theme that year was fertility, and this painting had so many aspects regarding fertility, it seems right to put it up. The Playa, as it often does, had its way with this painting! High winds tore it off of the R.V. in the evening and we found it dust-covered on the ground the next day. I wasn’t upset by this in the least. In fact, I really loved the fact that this exhibit in Black Rock City would be imbued in the painting from then on! While I’m a fine artist who loves bright colors and geometric design, the dulled appearance of this painting really appeals to me. It’s as though the work as ‘lived’ which contributes to its themes of time and life. Tock-Tick now hangs in a large room at the F.A.B.R.I.C. – The Fashion An Business Resources Innovation Center – in the middle of Tempe, Arizona. This room is being used for many interesting purposes from fashion classes to model dressing room. I’ll catch a glimpse of Tock Tick in selfies taken by models or behind-the-scenes shots during classes. I *love* this. Another aspect of this work that I’m fond of is that it was one of the first time-lapse videos of a geometric fine art piece that I’ve painted. You can see that video on my YouTube Channel – Courageous Creatives below! As with almost ALL of my art – “Tock Tick” is for sale. I envision this piece hanging in the house of someone who loves geometric and abstract pop art – but also someone who loves the art of Burning Man.
